A brutal attack by bandits in Niger State on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of 10 farmers, including a Chinese national and several women. The attackers beheaded six of the victims, taking their heads as they fled the scene. The attack occurred around 5am while many residents were praying.

“They mercilessly killed 10 people and injured many,” Tukur stated. He also pointed out that the attacks have prevented locals from fully harvesting their crops, with some villagers being forced to pay fees to the bandits for safe harvesting.

Bala Tukur, a local resident, described the attack as “traumatic,” and said many people have now abandoned their homes for safety. This incident adds to a rising number of violent attacks in the area, particularly during the harvest season. Bandits have been targeting communities in Rafi, Wushishi, Shiroro, Mariga, and Kontagora Local Government Areas.

In a related event, bandits also raided Zungeru town, where they abducted several residents, including Saidu Yakubu, known as Abacha, and his wife.

Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed, has confirmed that security forces have been sent to the area in response. However, Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, mentioned that more time is needed to confirm details of the incident. The ongoing violence has left many residents fearful for their safety.
