On the evening of November 3, a serious fire broke out at Ajah Market, located near Alesh Bus Stop in the Lekki area of Lagos State. The blaze started around 9 PM and quickly spread, destroying goods worth millions of Naira in several shops.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), stated that they responded quickly to the incident. They worked alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties since the market was closed at the time, and traders were not present. The cause of the fire remains unknown as investigations are ongoing. Oke-Osanyintolu assured that efforts are still being made to fully extinguish the fire and salvage any remaining valuables.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, especially in markets where many combustible materials are present. The quick response from emergency services likely prevented a more significant disaster.
