In a heartbreaking incident in Umuahia, Abia State, three people lost their lives in an attack by gunmen on Tuesday evening. The victims included a Zenith Bank employee, a passerby, and a tricycle driver.
Mr. Victor Udensi, the bank staff member, was attacked near his home in the Ishi Court area as he was returning from work around 8 p.m. The gunmen tried to force him into his own car, but he managed to escape. Unfortunately, they fired at him as he ran, severely injuring him.
The attackers then attempted to take his car, but when it wouldn’t start, they stopped another man passing by in a Camry. When he resisted their demand for his car keys, they shot and killed him on the spot.
As the gunmen fled toward the Ubakala area, they encountered a tricycle (known locally as “Keke”) driver who had unknowingly blocked the road. In their attempt to escape, they shot and killed him as well.
Although passersby rushed Mr. Udensi to the hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after treatment began.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, confirmed the tragic event and assured that the police are working hard to apprehend the attackers and ensure justice for the victims and their families.
