Larry Savage, a former Republican candidate for Congress in Indiana, has been charged with stealing ballots during a recent voting machine test. Savage lost in the Republican primary for the 5th Congressional District in May.
The Indiana State Police announced that he faces one felony charge for destroying or misplacing a ballot and one misdemeanor charge for theft. This incident took place on October 3, when officials were conducting a public test of the ballot card voting system in Madison County, using four voting machines and 132 test ballots.
During the test, two ballots went missing after the initial counting. Surveillance video showed Savage, who is also a precinct committeeman, folding the two ballots and putting them in his pocket after being told they were valid test ballots.
Police obtained a search warrant for Savage’s home and found the missing ballots in his car. After a warrant for his arrest was issued, Savage turned himself in at the Madison County Jail and was released on a $500 cash bond.
This case raises serious questions about election integrity and the actions of those involved in the electoral process.
