The Lagos State Attorney General, Mr. Lawal Pedro, recently announced that the toxicology report and other forensic analyses related to the late singer Mohbad, known as Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, have been received. This announcement was made during a press conference on October 21, held at the Ministry of Justice in Alausa, Ikeja.
During the briefing, Pedro confirmed that the autopsy report is now with the Lagos State Pathologist and the coroner magistrate. This press conference marked a series of events celebrating Pedro’s first year in office and included discussions on an upcoming strategic meeting with stakeholders.
Pedro acknowledged that there have been delays in the investigation into Mohbad’s death. He explained that these delays are due to the time needed for a thorough forensic process. He stated, “Yes, I agree there has been a delay, and the delay is caused by time taken for investigation.”
He emphasized the importance of comprehensive investigative procedures, including forensic analysis and toxicology, to ensure that any case presented in court has enough evidence to secure a conviction. “Forensic analysis, toxicology, all these are part of the investigation. A full-proof investigation can lead to a conviction in a case that is presented before the courts,” he said.
Additionally, the Attorney General clarified that the toxicology tests were conducted in the United States. This was necessary because the Lagos DNA and Forensic Centre was damaged during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020, which affected local forensic capabilities.
As the investigation continues, many are hopeful that the findings from the toxicology report will shed light on the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death and contribute to justice for the late artist.
