Jigawa Commissioner Arrested by Hisbah for Being Found with Married Woman

In a shocking turn of events, Auwal Danladi Sankaraa, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State, has been arrested by operatives of the Kano State Hisbah command. The arrest stems from allegations of adultery involving Sankaraa and a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, who is also a mother of two. This incident has raised significant concerns about the conduct of public officials and their accountability in Nigeria.

On Friday, the Kano State Hisbah Board confirmed that Sankaraa was detained after being found in an unfinished building he owns, alongside Nabegu. Hisbah Director General, Abba Sufi, stated, “Yes, it is true we have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankaraa with a married woman in an uncompleted building that belongs to him.” The Hisbah Board had been monitoring Sankaraa due to reports of his alleged misconduct.

The arrest is expected to lead to court charges on Monday, which could have serious implications for Sankaraa’s political career and reputation. The Hisbah Board, known for enforcing Islamic law and morality in Kano State, takes such allegations seriously, particularly when they involve public figures.

The situation escalated when Nasiru Bulama, the husband of the woman involved, lodged complaints with various authorities, including the Kano State Police and the Department of State Services (DSS). Bulama accused Sankaraa of engaging in an illicit affair with his wife, prompting the Hisbah Board to take action.

Abba Sufi explained, “We have been having problems with Sankaraa because he is operating illicit drug centers in the names of hotels, along with prostitution and drug addiction activities.” This statement raises further questions about the commissioner’s alleged involvement in other criminal activities beyond the current adultery charges.

This arrest highlights the pressing issue of accountability among public officials in Nigeria. Citizens expect their leaders to uphold ethical standards and set a good example. Incidents like this can erode public trust in government institutions, particularly when officials are implicated in immoral or illegal activities.

The case also underscores the role of local enforcement agencies like the Hisbah in monitoring and regulating behavior that contradicts societal values. Their involvement in this case signifies a proactive approach to maintaining moral standards within the community.
