Federal prosecutors are determined to keep music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in jail as they argue he poses a threat to witnesses if released on bail. The controversy centers around an alleged violent incident from March 2016 at a Los Angeles hotel, where Diddy is accused of assaulting a victim believed to be his former partner, Cassie.
According to new court documents, Diddy is accused of physically attacking the victim during an event at the InterContinental Hotel. Prosecutors describe a brutal scene in which Diddy allegedly punched the victim, threw her to the ground, kicked her, and tried to drag her back to their hotel room. Although the victim’s name is not disclosed in the documents, the details closely match previous reports about Cassie.
Prosecutors are particularly focused on what happened after the alleged assault. Security personnel at the hotel witnessed the attack on surveillance footage and approached Diddy. Reports claim that Diddy attempted to bribe the security officer with cash to keep quiet. Even though the guard rejected the offer, Diddy supposedly directed his team to get the surveillance footage, which prosecutors allege “disappeared” from the hotel’s servers shortly afterward.
Given these allegations of trying to obstruct justice, the prosecution is urging the court to deny Diddy’s bail. They argue that he may attempt to influence witnesses or destroy more evidence. Diddy’s legal team has filed several appeals against the bail denial, but all attempts have been unsuccessful so far.
As the case progresses, the federal government is committed to ensuring Diddy remains in custody until the trial, pointing to his past behavior as evidence of a pattern of trying to evade justice.
