Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for the 2023 Presidential election, has shared his insights on how Nigerians should approach criticism of their fellow citizens and businesses. He recently expressed on social media that he has learned to avoid criticizing or getting upset with Nigerians, especially regarding business operations.
The X user with the handle Olajumoke Alawode~James wrote, “I was waiting to land in Lagos before I cuss Air Peace for this 9 hour delay. But, @PeterObi is on my flight. Let me respect our leader.”
His remarks were prompted by a complaint from a Nigerian about a nine-hour delay on a flight with Air Peace. In response, Obi apologized on behalf of the airline and highlighted that it is unfair to blame business owners in Nigeria, considering the harsh conditions they face.
Obi emphasized that the current situation in the country requires Nigerians to exercise caution and empathy. He believes it is crucial to understand each other’s challenges, as many businesses struggle to thrive in a difficult environment.
By promoting understanding, Obi hopes to foster a sense of community among Nigerians, encouraging them to support one another rather than criticize. He believes that together, they can navigate these tough times and find solutions to common problems.
He said, “Thank you, my dear @oluwaloninyo. Let me sincerely apologize on their behalf. These days, I have learned to avoid criticizing or getting easily annoyed with Nigerians and, in particular, Nigerian businesses, given the harsh and difficult environment they have to navigate. The situation in our country demands that we always apply caution as we try to understand each other’s circumstances and factor them into our judgment of them. This should act as a reminder that many are doing their best despite the challenging circumstances and that patience and understanding can go a long way.”
