A tragic incident occurred in the Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State when a peacemaker, Markus Dali, was killed while trying to stop a fight. Dali, who was attempting to resolve a dispute between two men, Barka Yama and Alex Z. Tari, intervened when things escalated.
Reports indicate that during the confrontation, Barka struck Dali, causing him to fall unconscious. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Dali was later pronounced dead.
Following this incident, Barka, who is 32 years old, has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide under Section 191 of the Penal Code. In court proceedings in Yola, the prosecuting officer, ASP Francis Audu, explained that Dali’s attempt to separate the fighting men led to the fatal blow.
Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda has ordered Barka to be remanded at a correctional facility while awaiting further legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions. This incident highlights the risks peacemakers face while trying to maintain peace in their communities.
