Deji Adeleke, father of Nigerian music star Davido, has shared that he plays a major role in powering Nigeria. Speaking at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council 2024 on October 15th, Adeleke revealed that his business generates a significant portion of the country’s electricity.
“I am in the electricity business, and I own power plants,” said Adeleke. “Currently, I generate about 15% of Nigeria’s electricity. I have Chinese engineering companies working for me, and right now, we are building the largest thermal power plant in Nigeria, which will be ready by January 2025. This plant will produce 1250MW of power.”
Davido, Adeleke’s famous son, had previously mentioned the family’s influence in Nigeria’s energy industry. During an April interview on the American podcast ‘Business Untitled,’ Davido shared that his family owns four power plants that distribute a large portion of Nigeria’s electricity.
Adeleke’s company, Pacific Energy, is leading efforts to improve Nigeria’s power supply. With the launch of the new thermal plant, the country is expected to see a boost in electricity generation, helping to address ongoing energy challenges.
