Governor Uzodinma Drops N10bn World Bank Erosion Project in Imo

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made serious accusations against Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State. He claims that the governor has abandoned a vital erosion project in the Ideato area, which is funded by the World Bank. This project is crucial for addressing the severe erosion issues affecting local communities.

Anyanwu shared these claims through his media adviser, Ikenna Onuoha. He pointed out that the project was put on hold because the World Bank refused to allow the Imo State Government to supervise it. Additionally, the state failed to pay N500 million, which was necessary to continue the project.

The senator expressed concern about the impact of erosion on local communities, stating that it has significantly damaged property and hurt economic activities in the area. He accused Uzodinma’s government of letting the erosion problem worsen, which is harming the residents of Imo State. Anyanwu criticized the administration for not following the guidelines set by the World Bank in the contract.

He stressed that a responsible government should act without waiting for public approval. However, he feels the current APC-led government in Imo State is neglecting its responsibilities for personal gain. Furthermore, he noted that the erosion control contract, which was initiated by previous administrations, has allegedly been terminated under Uzodinma’s leadership.

“The APC administration in the state is insensitive, non-proactive, and irresponsive to the yearning of the people.

“A situation where the people of Ideato nation and other parts of the State find it difficult to access the State capital on a motorable road despite huge resources available to the government is most unwholesome, pathetic and injurious to the fortune of the state,” he stated.

The media adviser further pointed out that it is debasing that a contract initiated by previous governments with the World Bank for the control of erosion menace in Ideato was allegedly terminated by Uzodinma’s administration.

“The question is; if this government could treat the masses this way, what other dividends of democracy will Uzodinma’s administration offer to Imo people after displaying high level of ignominy, slur, infamy, intense dislike and utter abandonment of a N10 billion erosion control project in Urualla?

“It is regrettable to posit that if Uzodinma’s APC-led administration had allowed this project to continue, the issue of the devastating erosion menace in Ideato North and South LGAs would have been tackled,” he added.

In conclusion, Anyanwu’s accusations highlight a troubling situation for the people of Imo State, as the abandonment of this crucial project could lead to further environmental and economic challenges.
