Police in Ebonyi State recently arrested a man, Okoro Daniel Obumneme, for allegedly stealing a black Prado jeep that belonged to a member of the Ebonyi House of Assembly. The jeep had been left at a car wash in the Abakaliki shopping mall, where Obumneme worked. After washing the vehicle, the suspect drove it out of the premises and disappeared with it.
Thanks to the efforts of the police, the suspect was tracked down and the stolen jeep was recovered. The Ebonyi State police spokesperson, Joshua Ụkandu, confirmed both the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the vehicle.
“The suspect was traced to Mgbuka Obosi in Anambra state, where he intended to sell the vehicle, and it was recovered”, he said.
In a separate case, the police also arrested four armed robbery suspects. These individuals were accused of robbing a Mercedes Benz car from one Kenneth Aluma at gunpoint in Ndufu Alike Ikwo. The suspects, identified as Praise Chukwudi (30), Chukwudi Victor Onuagba (27), Solomon Friday Godwin (25), and Chidiebere Chidozie (24), also robbed a local Point of Sale (POS) operator.
“They also robbed one Ogoh Chimaobi Solomon who operates a POS machine and made away with cash of six hundred and one thousand Naira (N601,000) and a Camon 19 Tecno phone”, he said.
The police were able to arrest these suspects at Precious Guest House in Onicha. During the operation, they recovered the stolen Mercedes Benz and two locally-made guns. The police credited their success to their intelligence efforts and committed teamwork.
These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts by the police to combat crime in Ebonyi State, ensuring safety for residents and bringing criminals to justice.
“The suspects will be charged in court once the investigation into the matter is concluded”.
“Commissioner Of Police, Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya is using this medium to assure the residents of the state that the command would leave no stone unturned in going after criminals who refuse to desist from crime”, Ukandu added.
