Independence Day: Nigerian Students Call for Increased Campus Security

On Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, students across the country came together to call for better security on campuses. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) organized a peaceful march in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to bring attention to this issue.

Speaking during the march, NANS President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, urged the Federal Government to prioritize student safety by strengthening security on campuses nationwide. While he acknowledged some progress since Nigeria’s independence, he emphasized that much more needs to be done to keep students safe.

Emonefe also praised the current government, led by President Bola Tinubu, for introducing helpful initiatives such as the student loan program and providing CNG buses to make transportation more affordable for students.

“These celebrations are a way for us to show our pride in Nigeria and thank God for keeping us strong despite the challenges. We also celebrate the achievements we’ve made so far,” Emonefe said.

He also emphasized that Nigerian students stand united and will not support anyone with bad intentions toward the country. Emonefe stressed that true patriotism is about helping leaders succeed while also speaking out when necessary on certain policies or actions.
