Police Shoot Suspected Gunman in Anambra, Seize Weapons

In Anambra State, police engaged a suspected gunman linked to a secessionist group, resulting in his death. This incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Aguata area.

Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, reported that officers confronted a gang traveling in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga road. During the encounter, one suspect was killed, while others managed to escape.

The police recovered a range of weapons and items from the scene. They found two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, and 15 live cartridges. They also seized the black Jeep, which had two different license plates. In addition to the weapons, officers collected two police body vests, three fez caps, a black handbag, and various charms.

He explained: “On 29/9/2024 at 11:30 p.m., the Police-led Security Force, while on patrol within Aguata LGA, received information about suspected armed men sighted in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga axis.

“The operatives, in an offensive approach to the scene, engaged the armed men in a gun battle and neutralized one of the miscreants while the others escaped.”

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Anambra to tackle gun violence and criminal activities in the region.
