Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a reduction in workdays for civil servants. This change is aimed at helping workers cope with the increased cost of transportation caused by the country’s current economic challenges.

In addition to reducing workdays, the Governor approved an extension of the payment of palliatives for civil servants for another two months. This is intended to provide further financial support to public workers during this tough period.

The announcement was made in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Samuel Aina Ayanleye, and shared by Olawale Rasheed, the Governor’s spokesperson. The Governor’s decision is seen as a step to support workers and ease the financial burden many are facing.

“By this Circular, therefore, and until another directive is given, the working day schedules for Public Servants in the state have been approved as follows:

“Public Servants on GL.01 to GL.10 – Three days a week. Public Servants on GL12 to GL.17 – Four days a week.”

However, it is important to note that this new schedule does not apply to essential workers like medical staff, security personnel, political office holders, and accounting officers. These groups are expected to continue their regular work schedule.

Governor Adeleke’s action reflects his dedication to improving the lives of workers in Osun State, especially during these trying economic times.

“It is also important to note that arrangements as to which days each public servant in the above categories will be at work shall be arranged by the Accounting Officers in Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government.

“The Governor has also graciously approved the continuation of payment of the agreed palliatives to public servants in the state for the next two months pending the commencement of the new minimum wage.

“All Accounting Officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of governments, including local governments, were further directed to comply.”
