In Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, a residential building collapsed early Monday morning after heavy rain swept through the area. The house, owned by a local man named Samuel Stephen, could not withstand the pressure from the intense rainfall that weakened its foundation.
According to local sources, the heavy downpour, which lasted for hours, caused the building to fall while the residents were fast asleep. Fortunately, no one lost their life, but four people were injured, including children. They are now being treated in a hospital.
A neighbor, Dusu Judith, who witnessed the collapse, mentioned that the building was located near Government College, Riyom. She added that it was a miracle the occupants survived, given how the building crumbled around them.
Another resident, Bot Rwang, expressed his relief, saying, “It’s amazing that the family members managed to escape unharmed. We thank God for their survival because the house was completely destroyed.”
The local community is still reeling from the shock of the incident, but they are grateful that the injuries were not more severe.
