Former President Donald Trump narrowly avoided harm during a second assassination attempt on Sunday, this time at his Florida golf club. While Trump was enjoying a game at the Trump International Golf Club, a man with a rifle was spotted near the perimeter of the course.
Secret Service agents noticed the rifle and responded immediately. They fired at the suspect, who then fled in a car. Thanks to a witness who captured the suspect’s vehicle on camera, law enforcement was able to track him down and arrest him.
The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, is known for his outspoken political views and support for Ukraine. Authorities found an AK-47-style rifle, two backpacks with ceramic tiles, and a GoPro camera at the scene. Routh remained silent during his arrest.
Trump was unharmed and continued his golf game after the incident. The FBI is leading the investigation into the attempt, which follows a similar event two months ago. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called for a state investigation, and Congress is seeking updates from the Secret Service.
