Nigerian Journalist Rufai Oseni: Families Can’t Survive on N400k, N500k, or N600k Salaries in Lagos

Nigerian journalist Rufai Oseni has voiced concerns about the increasing financial struggles many Lagos residents face. During a segment on Arise TV, he highlighted the impact of Nigeria’s economic challenges, stating that even salaries as high as N400k, N500k, or N600k are no longer enough to support a family in Lagos.

Oseni questioned the confusion surrounding fuel pricing, referencing the sudden hike in petrol prices by over N100 in a single day. He expressed frustration with conflicting reports from major players like Dangote and NNPC regarding the costs.

He further pointed out that the new N70,000 minimum wage is already inadequate, and even those earning what were once considered high salaries struggle to keep up with the cost of living. According to Oseni, a salary of N400k to N600k barely covers basic needs for families in Lagos, given the skyrocketing prices of goods and services.
