The Federal High Court has confirmed it will resume operations on Tuesday following its annual break. The vacation, which began on July 23, officially ended on September 13. However, due to a public holiday declared by the Federal Government in celebration of Eid-ul-Maulud, the court’s activities will now commence on Tuesday.
The announcement about the court’s annual break was made earlier on July 11 by Dr. Catherine Oby-Christopher, the Assistant Director of Information and ICT. In the statement, she relayed that the Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho, had approved the break for all divisions of the Federal High Court.
During the vacation period, the court advised those with urgent cases to seek assistance at the Abuja, Lagos, or Port-Harcourt divisions of the Federal High Court.
To handle pressing matters, special vacation judges were assigned to these divisions. Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice Peter Lifu served in Abuja, Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac Dipeolu took charge in Lagos, while Justice A. T. Mohammed and Justice P. M. Ayua were appointed for Port-Harcourt.
According to the statement,
“By virtue of the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4 (d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Tsoho, announces its 2024 Annual Vacation and Roster for Vacation Judges.
“The vacation will commence from July 23 to September 13, 2024. Normal court sitting will resume on 16th September, 2024.
“This is in order for judges to enjoy their well- deserved rest and to prepare for the tasks and activities of the New Legal year.”
