Laura Lake Adebisi: “Nigeria Shouldn’t Have Been One Country”

British-Nigerian actress, Laura Lake Adebisi, recently shared her thoughts on the existence of Nigeria as a single nation. In a viral video, she boldly stated that Nigeria should never have been formed into one country.

Adebisi pointed out the deep differences between the Northern and Southern regions of Nigeria as a major reason for her opinion. She believes these differences in culture, ideology, and governance make it difficult for the country to function effectively as a united nation.

In the video, she also directed her criticism towards the British government, accusing them of playing a key role in the creation of Nigeria during the colonial era. According to her, the decision to combine such diverse regions into one country was a mistake.

Adebisi said,

“The footprints of colonialism are over Nigeria. Nigeria should have never been a country! The difference in ideology from the northern side to the southern side is insane.

“When the Eastern side tried to secede and form Biafra, the ex-colonialists [Britain] were like, no, we don’t want that. So they instead empower Nigeria to crush that country.

“They were like, we want you guys to stay like this so we can continue to pillage and take all of your resources.

“So the footprints of colonialism are still all over Nigeria. It’s in the shape of the country. It’s on the map.”

Adebisi’s comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing with her stance, while others feel the country’s unity can be strengthened despite the challenges.
