A terrible fire broke out at Hillside Endarasha Primary School, located in Central Kenya, on Thursday night, resulting in the deaths of at least 17 pupils. The fire started while the children were asleep, catching them completely off guard.
On Friday morning, Kenyan Police spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the tragic event. She shared that a team of investigators has already been deployed to look into the cause of the fire. As of now, the exact reason behind the fire remains unknown.
In the meantime, the Kenya Red Cross has stepped in to provide support. They are offering psychological assistance to the surviving students, the teachers, and the families who were affected. To help locate those still missing, they have also set up a tracing desk at the school.
Unfortunately, it is feared that the number of casualties could increase, as many of the surviving pupils are in critical condition, suffering from severe burns. Several students have already been admitted to the hospital for treatment, and the situation remains grave.
This tragedy has deeply shaken the community, and authorities are working hard to uncover the cause of the fire, while also ensuring that those affected receive the necessary care and support.
