Libyan Driver Detained for Smuggling Two Nigerian Women

On September 3, 2024, a significant arrest took place in the Brega area of Libya. Authorities detained a Libyan driver for attempting to smuggle two undocumented women from Nigeria. This incident is part of the ongoing efforts to combat human smuggling in the region, which continues to be a major concern.

The driver was intercepted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) while transporting the two women. Upon interrogation, the driver confessed that he was moving the women from Houn to Benghazi in exchange for money. He admitted to receiving 700 Libyan Dinar, equivalent to around 150 USD, per person for the job.

Following the confession, the driver, identified only by his initials B.A.H.A., and the two women were all referred to the public prosecution in Ajdabiya. They will face legal action as authorities continue to crack down on human smuggling networks operating in Libya.

This case underscores the persistent issue of human smuggling in Libya, particularly involving vulnerable migrants. It also highlights the efforts of Libyan authorities to address these illegal activities and bring those responsible to justice.
