In a heartbreaking turn of events, 19-year-old Moroccan student Anas Zubairu was killed by his kidnappers in Nasarawa State after his family paid a ransom. Zubairu, who was studying in Morocco, was in Nasarawa for a holiday with his family when he was abducted.
The kidnapping occurred on Friday evening around 6 p.m. in Lafia. After spending time with his family, Zubairu went out to secure his car and gate before heading home. It was at this moment that the kidnappers, who had been hiding nearby, shot him in the shoulder.
Following the shooting, the kidnappers took Zubairu to an undisclosed location. They initially demanded N30 million in ransom, but after negotiations, the amount was reduced to N17 million, which the family paid.
Despite the ransom payment, the kidnappers stopped communicating with the family two days later. On Sunday morning, they informed the family that Zubairu had been killed.
The tragic case underscores the severe risks and consequences associated with kidnapping.
