The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has cautioned Corps Members about the risks of traveling at night. He stated that night travel is not allowed and that any Corps Member who undertakes unauthorized journeys will face penalties according to NYSC rules.
While addressing the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two Corps Members at the FCT Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, General Ahmed emphasized that if a trip is necessary, it should be stopped by 6:00 pm, and continued the next day. He advised that if it becomes too late to continue traveling, Corps Members should seek safety in places like military barracks, police stations, or Corps Lodges.
He also encouraged the Corps Members to stay disciplined, be aware of their surroundings, and follow all NYSC rules throughout their service year. The NYSC DG highlighted the importance of participating in all camp activities and making good friends while respecting others.
The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmood, reaffirmed the FCT administration’s support for the NYSC. She urged the Corps Members to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to gain skills for self-employment.
The NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shopeka, welcomed 2,557 Corps Members to the camp, urging them to remain disciplined and avoid negative behavior, such as drug abuse. She stressed that misconduct would not be tolerated.
The Oath of Allegiance was administered to the Corps Members by Justice Mustapha Adamu, representing the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, with the NYSC DG and other dignitaries in attendance.
