In a significant development, the Katsina State Police Command has successfully arrested three men suspected of being involved in gunrunning activities. This arrest is part of the ongoing efforts by the police to combat the rising threat of armed banditry in the region.
The suspects, all 25 years old, have been identified as Ahmed Mohammed Kabir from Hayin Danmani quarters in Kaduna State, Mannir Musa from Dutsinma town, and Aliyu Iliya from Dankauye village in Safana LGA, Katsina State. They were apprehended on August 29, 2024, in Dutsinma town, located in Dutsinma LGA. The arrest was made while they were attempting to deliver 740 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition to suspected armed bandits hiding in Yauni forest, near Ummadau village in Safana LGA.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the ammunition was believed to have been sourced from Nasarawa State and was intended for a notorious bandit leader named Harisu, who remains at large. During questioning, the suspects admitted their involvement in the operation and identified Harisu as the mastermind behind the transaction.
This operation marks a significant achievement for the Katsina State Police Command in its ongoing battle against banditry and gunrunning. The command is now working tirelessly to apprehend more suspects connected to this case and bring them to justice.
