Nigerian music star and former Big Brother Naija winner, Laycon, has called out DJ Neptune over unpaid royalties for their hit collaboration, ‘Nobody (Icons Remix).’ In a recent post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Laycon voiced his frustration, stating that DJ Neptune has failed to pay him the agreed royalties for the remix, which was released four years ago.
The reality star emphasized how important it is for artists to honor agreements in the music industry. He wrote, “DJ Neptune, how far my agreement and split for the ‘Nobody (Icons Remix)’ song? It’s been 4 years now.”
The remix, which also featured Joeboy, was a special release dedicated to Laycon’s fanbase, known as Icons, after his BBNaija victory in October 2020. Despite the song’s success, Laycon is still waiting for his share of the royalties.
At the time of writing, DJ Neptune has yet to respond to Laycon’s allegations.
This incident highlights ongoing issues within the music industry regarding proper compensation and fair treatment of artists. Laycon’s public call-out serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and adherence to contracts.
As fans eagerly wait for Neptune’s response, this situation brings attention to the need for better industry practices, especially regarding royalties and artist rights.
