The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is expected to start producing petrol by mid-September, according to a recent report by Reuters. The refinery, owned by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, had initially planned to begin production earlier but faced delays.
Earlier reports suggested that petrol production would begin in June, but due to minor setbacks, the date was pushed to July. In July, the refinery announced another delay, setting a new target for August. However, some sources claim that production might be delayed again until September.
Despite these rumors, Anthony Chiejina, the chief branding and communications officer of the Dangote Group, has denied the possibility of further delays. He stated that the refinery is still on track to start petrol production as planned.
In addition, the refinery clarified that it has not yet set the price for petrol, debunking reports that the price would be fixed at N600 per liter.
The Dangote Refinery, once operational, will greatly reduce Nigeria’s need to import petrol, a major step towards energy independence for the country.
