In a heartbreaking incident, a 50-year-old woman named Nemis Usman lost her life after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Taraba State. Nemis was part of “Operation Keep Taraba Clean,” a program dedicated to keeping the state’s streets clean. She was performing her duties early Thursday morning along Yola Road in the Jalingo metropolis when a vehicle hit her near Nobis Junction, Mile Six.
Despite being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, Nemis was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver responsible for this tragedy fled the scene and remains unidentified. Police sources have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on tracking down the driver involved in the incident.
Iliya Kefas, the coordinator of Operation Keep Taraba Clean, assured the public that they are working closely with law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice. Gambo Kwache, the spokesperson for the Taraba State Police Command, emphasized that the police are committed to resolving the case swiftly.
This accident follows another recent tragedy in the state, where four women drowned in a boat mishap in Ardo-Kola LGA, adding to the string of sorrowful events in Taraba.
