Wizkid, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Afrobeats stars, recently opened up about his journey to fame. He boldly claimed that he was the first young Nigerian artist to achieve widespread recognition and stardom. Reflecting on his rise, Wizkid expressed deep gratitude to his parents for their unwavering support, even when they initially doubted his career choice.
Growing up in a household with a Christian mother and a Muslim father, Wizkid’s parents allowed him to explore his own path. Despite their different religious beliefs, they maintained a harmonious relationship, letting him decide whether to follow Islam or Christianity. This freedom and love, according to Wizkid, were crucial in shaping the person he is today.
“My parents didn’t even believe that there was a chance in that [the music industry],” Wizkid shared. He emphasized how their acceptance and encouragement, despite initial skepticism, allowed him to pursue his dreams without constraints.
Wizkid also announced that he would be releasing a new album in honor of his late mother, who passed away on August 18, 2023, in London. The album, titled “Morayo,” which was his mother’s middle name, is a tribute to her memory and the impact she had on his life and career.
