In a remarkable escape, a father and his child avoided serious injury when a large tree fell on their car in Calabar, Cross River State. The incident occurred on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Eta Agbor by Akim.
Strong winds caused the old tree to uproot and crash onto the car, significantly damaging its bonnet. Despite the damage, both the father and child inside the vehicle miraculously emerged unhurt.
Eyewitnesses who were present at the scene are now calling on the Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) to take swift action. They are urging CUDA to remove aging trees along major roads to prevent similar dangerous occurrences.
One witness remarked, “It was a close call. If the tree had fallen just a few seconds earlier, it could have been disastrous. We hope CUDA takes responsibility and ensures the safety of road users.”
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular tree maintenance, particularly in urban areas where weather conditions can lead to unforeseen accidents. Residents are now looking to local authorities to prevent such near-tragedies from happening in the future.
