In Bangladesh, anti-government protests have escalated dramatically, leading to the looting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s residence. The unrest began over issues like civil service job quotas, corruption, and economic problems.
On August 5, 2024, Sheikh Hasina, who is 76 years old, resigned from her position and fled to India. She and her sister escaped in a military helicopter just before protesters reached the capital.
As the protests intensified, at least 94 people have lost their lives, including 14 police officers. The situation became even more chaotic when protesters broke into Hasina’s home and stole various items, including personal belongings. This act of violence highlights the severity of the unrest and the deep divisions within the country.
