The family of Bashir Muhammad Lawan, a 25-year-old man killed in recent protests in Kano State, is calling for justice. According to reports, at least eight people died during clashes between protesters and security forces in Rijiyar Lemo and Kurnar Asabe areas on August 3. Bashir was among those killed when protests in Rijiyar Lemo turned violent.
His father, Malam Muhammad Lawal, shared that Bashir was shot just fifteen minutes after he left home to join the peaceful protest. He and other protesters were reportedly holding placards when police began shooting. The family claims that Bashir was hit by a bullet as he tried to take cover.
Khadija Bala, Bashir’s elder sister, expressed frustration over the situation. She said, “They were only protesting but were called thugs. Poor people have no right to demand their rights? We want justice for him.” The family is deeply grieving and demanding accountability for their loss.
