MTN Shuts Down Service Centers in Nigeria Amid Customer Outrage

MTN, a leading telecommunications company in Nigeria, has announced the closure of all its service centers nationwide. This decision came on Tuesday in response to widespread anger from customers over the disconnection of their SIM cards.

The company made the announcement on its official X account, urging customers to use its digital channels, which are available 24/7, for any assistance they might need. The closure was prompted by a surge of complaints from subscribers whose lines were barred on Sunday due to discrepancies in their National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM registration.

The situation escalated when a viral video surfaced on social media showing a large crowd of angry customers vandalizing an MTN office in FESTAC Town, Lagos State. The video depicted the mob destroying a barricade fence outside the office in protest of the disconnections.

In response to the growing unrest, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directed all mobile network operators on Monday to immediately reactivate the disconnected users.

For now, MTN subscribers are advised to use the company’s digital channels to resolve any issues until the service centers reopen.
