Man Arrested for Inciting Violence Ahead of Plateau State Protests

In a significant development, the Plateau State Police Command has arrested Sulaiman Yakubu for allegedly inciting violence and urging residents to destroy property during a nationwide protest planned for August 1st.

In a viral TikTok video, Yakubu called on the people of Plateau State to “test the ground” by initiating violence before the main protest on Thursday. He specifically urged residents of Jos North, Jos South, and Jos East to start by burning down filling stations on Monday. He then suggested escalating the violence on the following days by burning markets such as Yankwalli and Terminus, followed by targeting police stations and military barracks if any protester was killed.

Yakubu’s instructions didn’t stop there. He encouraged further destruction by suggesting the burning of bakeries if their demands were not met, and finally, attacking the homes of affluent individuals in the Rayfield area by the fifth day if no change occurred.

The Plateau State Police Command acted swiftly to arrest Yakubu, emphasizing the need to maintain peace and prevent any potential outbreak of violence. The police have reiterated the importance of lawful and peaceful demonstrations, warning that any attempt to incite violence or cause public disorder will be met with the full force of the law.

This arrest underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in managing public protests and maintaining order, especially when individuals exploit social media platforms to spread inflammatory and dangerous rhetoric.
