The match, delayed by 82 minutes due to security and crowd issues, was decided by Martinez’s fifth goal of the tournament.
This victory marks Argentina’s third consecutive major tournament win, following the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Lionel Messi had to leave the game injured in the 66th minute and watched the rest from the bench, while Angel Di Maria played his final game for Argentina.
Colombia, who won their only Copa America in 2001, had a disappointing performance under coach Nestor Lorenzo.
Fans faced chaos entering the stadium, with organizers blaming ticketless supporters and fans blaming the poor entry system. Eventually, gates were opened without checks, resolving the issue.
In the seventh minute, Colombia’s Jhon Cordoba hit the post, but neither team found their rhythm early on.
Di Maria set up Messi in the 20th minute, but his shot was saved by Colombia’s keeper Camilo Vargas.
Colombia looked more energetic in the first half, with Jefferson Lerma’s 25-yard shot forcing a save from Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez in the 33rd minute.
Messi required treatment after a sliding challenge from Santiago Arias in the 36th minute.
Messi then took a free-kick which Nicolas Tagliafico headed just off target.
The first half was dull, and halftime entertainment came from Colombian singer Shakira.
Argentina struggled to clear a James Rodriguez corner, leading to Davinson Sanchez’s header floating over the bar.
Di Maria had a strong run in from the left but Vargas saved his shot.
