University staff in Nigeria, including members of SSANU and NASU, staged protests across campuses demanding their salaries.

On July 9, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) protested on public university campuses, seeking their unpaid salaries.

At Ahmadu Bello University and Federal University of Technology, Owerri, staff carried placards urging the government to release withheld salaries and address their grievances.

At the University of Ilorin, SSANU and NASU members joined protests, urging political leaders to cut down on governance costs to better support university staff.

Union leaders expressed frustration over unmet demands dating back to 2009, urging the government to act swiftly to prevent further deterioration of university education.

Following a warning strike, NASU National President Makolo Hassan confirmed the protests, highlighting the government’s failure to address their demands.
