The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, Professor Armaya’u Bichi, has claimed that some university staff members are providing information to bandits.
Bichi revealed this information to journalists in Katsina on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, stating that the contacts of the suspected staff have been handed over to security agencies for further investigation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that bandits have been attacking the area, kidnapping students, staff, and their family members from the university.
A recent attack that resulted in the death of a university staff member led his colleagues to hold a peaceful protest against the insecurity.
The vice chancellor mentioned that the school management is making every effort to prevent such incidents, but the situation continues to worsen.
Prof. Bichi stated.
“The issue of informants is concerning. We have investigated and identified staff suspected of giving information about their colleagues and students,” Prof.
“We have provided their contacts to a security agency for further investigation.”
“However, we have not received any feedback from the security agencies.”
“These suspects are our staff. We have strong reasons to believe they are informing bandits,” the vice-chancellor disclosed.
In response, the state’s Police Command said they were unaware of the issue but promised to investigate further.The command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, urged the public to provide information that could help resolve security challenges.
