A well-known gang in Haiti attacked a police station and killed many officers.
Reports say that the gang, led by Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier, attacked a police station in Gressier, Port-au-Prince, killing at least 20 officers.
The attack started on Sunday, June 30, according to emerging reports.
Haiti Libre reported that the “Vivre Ensemble” gang coalition, led by “Barbecue”, was behind the attack. Other reports mentioned involvement from the Bougoy Gang.
Regarding the police station attack, reports indicated that a strong police counter-offensive resulted in several gang members being killed.
Haiti Libre reported that Ti Bébé Bougoy, the leader of the Bougoy gang who had boasted about being stronger than the police the day before, was captured.
It was reported that the gang used heavy machinery to destroy the police station, which authorities have now seized.
In June 2022, it was reported that the gang had been recruiting homeless and at-risk teens to use as foot soldiers in gang conflicts.
