President Bola Tinubu has asked Mamman Ahmadu to step down from his position as the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
The announcement was made on Saturday, June 15, by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. He stated that this change is part of a broader plan to make the public procurement system more efficient and transparent.
Ngelale mentioned that the Director-General will hand over his duties to the most senior officer in the Bureau until a new Director-General is appointed.
The President thanked Ahmadu for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors. The specific reason for the directive was not provided.
In another announcement, Ngelale shared that Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). Gbeleyi is an acclaimed financial expert and chartered accountant.
Gbeleyi is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He has also attended executive programs at prestigious institutions like the London Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Lagos Business School.
Gbeleyi brings over 30 years of experience across various sectors, including manufacturing, banking, telecommunications, and public administration.
The statement
“He was the Board Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State from 2013 to 2015.
The President expects the new Director-General to bring his vast experience and competence to bear in this role to strengthen the agency as the national resource centre for capacity building and sustenance of reforms through the promotion of a competitive private sector-driven economy, ensuring social accountability and efficient deployment of public resources, as well as advancing effective corporate governance and fiduciary discipline in the public and private sectors.”
