300 Nigerian Women’s Groups Boycott Erisco Foods Over Imprisoned Tomato Paste Reviewer

Over 300 women’s groups in Nigeria are calling for a boycott of Erisco Foods because a woman named Chioma Okoli is in jail after leaving a bad review of their tomato paste on Facebook.Okoli was arrested in September 2023 and has been in jail ever since.

She recently pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and cyberstalking.

The women’s groups are upset that Okoli is being punished for expressing her opinion about a product she bought.

They believe the government should be investigating the quality of Erisco’s products instead of siding with the company.

The groups listed several reasons for the boycott, including Okoli’s continued detention, the stress it has caused her, and the fact that she lost her pregnancy while in jail.

They also said

Okoli is being denied her right to free speech and that they are worried she won’t get a fair trial.

The women’s groups praised Okoli for her bravery and said they would continue to support her. They criticized the Nigerian government for not protecting consumers and called for an investigation into Erisco’s products.
